The Craft

At Afterwood Refabrications, “trash” is treasure, we work with old furniture, logs from felled trees, pallets, building materials (decking, scrap metal, screens, etc), plexiglass, old tools, and more. Nothing is without value or purpose, no matter how dirty, broken, strange, or old we find a way to use it all. And what can’t be used in its entirety is stripped down and harvested of its usable portions. Rot is trimmed, paint is stripped, rust is cleaned. Every piece of material has potential to be something.  

 The process starts with the material, the scavenging, the hunt for things other people overlook and throw away. Each item is assessed for what it can become, not what it currently is. From there it is harvested, stripped, shaped, smoothed, and reborn. The tools used are extensions of the hands that create and build, worked with skill, instinct, and precision. Each piece is built to last, functional, and expressive of its former life.
